How it works & default sources
Choose a horizon that covers your remaining lifetime. Success means every annual expense was fully funded; a portfolio may finish at zero after funding the final year. It is a modelled frequency, not a guarantee.
Expenses are withdrawn at the start of each year and rise with inflation. The remainder is invested at your fixed equity/debt weights, rebalanced annually. Annual gross returns are lognormal with the arithmetic mean and standard deviation you enter; equity and debt return shocks are assumed independent. Assumptions stay constant over time.
No tax calculation is applied. Enter the annual return you expect to retain after taxes and fees. The default returns are historical benchmark starting points before personal tax; reduce or replace them to suit your portfolio.
Global equity: 9.7% return, 15% volatility. Based on MSCI ACWI IMI (USD gross), 31 August 2026: 8.69% annualised compound return since May 1994 and 14.94% ten-year volatility. The model converts those references to an approximate arithmetic mean, rounded to 9.7%. Pre-launch history is back-tested.
Global debt: 2.1% return, 4.1% volatility. The BNDW benchmark factsheet, 30 June 2026 reports 1.99% compound return since September 2018 for the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Float Adjusted Composite Index (USD hedged). Volatility uses the AGGU global bond ETF’s 4.12% three-year USD-hedged volatility at 31 August 2026 as a proxy. The approximate arithmetic return rounds to 2.1%. This short historical window includes the bond downturn; it is not a forward return forecast.
Currency & inflation. These references are in USD, not historical INR returns. Applying them to INR amounts assumes no additional USD/INR movement. Reflect currency expectations in your inputs. Inflation stays at an editable 5% for INR spending; it is a planning assumption, not a world-index statistic. The references use different available periods and are starting assumptions, not a fitted joint market model.
No future income, contributions, fees, liabilities or one-off costs are added. Only include wealth you can use to fund spending. Reported net worth excludes unvested holdings and may have incomplete account coverage. Extreme events and changing market conditions can differ from this model.
Runs use the same random seed so assumption changes are comparable. Calculations stay in this browser; assumptions and results are not saved.
